Dental Sealants

The sealants create a barrier against harmful bacteria and acids and make the teeth easier to clean.

The deep grooves commonly found on molars are home to almost 75 percent of all tooth decay. These areas can be difficult to clean, even with regular care. By smoothing out these surfaces using sealants, they become significantly easier to clean and maintain.

Our young patients who are still developing proper oral hygiene habits are excellent candidates for sealants. Adults may also receive dental sealants to protect their molars.

Before applying sealants, the tooth surface will be cleaned thoroughly. We will then apply an etching agent to the tooth which will help the sealant stick properly. Next, we will apply the liquid sealant material into the irregularities of the tooth. The liquid sealant is then set and dried properly using a special blue dental curing light. Finally, we will check to ensure all the grooves have been filled in successfully and the bite is proper.
